Officials in Virginia are independent contractors. Most athletics officiating in Virginia is “association based,” meaning that most contracts for athletic officiating services are made between a school/district or region and a local officials association. (Like us!)

In Virginia, there are 15 sub-groups throughout the state (called districts). Each district usually has an "association" that is responsible for the training and education of officials that live within their geographic borders as well as assigning officials for games on the Varsity and sub-varsity level. Our local district is comprised mainly of Albemarle, Greene, Orange, Louisa, and Fluvanna counties.
